Frequently Asked Questions

Q - How can you afford to give away free hosting?
A - We sell premium plans and the profit from them supports our free plans. We also hope that after using our free hosting plan as your web site grows and you need more features you will upgrade to our full-featured premium plan.

Q - Can I host anything on my web site?
A - As all hosts do, we do have restrictions, please see our policies.

Q - Do you place banners on my web site?
A - No, we place no ads of any kind on your web site.

Q - How do I upgrade to a premium unlimited plan?
A - It's easy! Simply complete the upgrade form and we will take care of the rest.

Q - What all is involved in upgrading to the premium unlimited plan?
A - When you upgrade to the premium unlimited plan, our migration team will move your account from our free server to one of our premium servers. As long as your domain name is using our nameservers, you will not have to make any changes.

Q - Is the server performance different from the free web hosting and the premium web hosting?
A - Yes. Upgrading to the premium unlimited plan will move your account over to a bigger and faster server. While we believe our free web hosting server is high performance, we cannot maintain the same performance level across the two different platforms due to the costs involved.

Q - When I try to log into my cPanel I am confronted with a "This Connection is Untrusted" warning message.
A - This is normal. This is because the secure certificate for the cPanel on our free web hosting server is self-signed. A self-signed secure certificate offers the same level of encryption protection as any secure certificate. But your browser is not able to verify the validity of a self-signed certificate. When you visit a website, like amazon.com, the secure certificate there does two things. 1) It encrypts data as it passes from your browser to the web server, and 2) it validates the website - it tells you that amazon.com is a reputable company. A self-signed certificate does not provide this validity step. You have to trust that the website you are going to is safe. We can assure you that it is.

Q - Do you provide secure mail, secure SMTP, secure IMAP, secure POP3, etc?
A - We do with our premium unlimited web hosting accounts.

Q - What scripts can I install on my account?
A - Generally we allow any script to be installed on your account. If the script starts to cause problems on the server, we may have to disable the script. As with any script, it is important that you maintain the script and keep it up to date.

Q - Do you offer ASP, ASP.NET, or other Windows platforms
A - No. We have found Windows based hosting to be a bit more unstable. The cost for maintaining a Windows platform is generally higher and it is not cost effective for us.

Q - How long have you been in the web hosting business?
A - We have been in the web hosting business since 1996.

Q - How many clients do you serve?
A - We have about 8000 clients in total. We may not be as big as other web hosting companies, but we feel that this is to our advantage. We are big enough to know what we are doing, but small enough to still value each of our customers.

Q - My website is not working, how can I contact support?
A - To reach our support department, simply complete a support ticket and our friendly support team will be happy to help. The support ticket system allows our team to read any error messages and investigate an issue in a timely manner. Our support team is available 24/7.

Q - I have uploaded my website, but I still see the under construction page.
A - First, make sure you are uploading the files inside your public_html folder. When you first log in with an FTP client, by default you'll be in your home directory. You need to change into the public_html directory (usually by double clicking on the public_html directory in your FTP client). Then you need to upload your website.

Second, make sure you are uploading an index page. This is the first page that is displayed by default when someone visits your domain name. This needs to be named either index.html, index.htm, or index.php. The under construction page on your account will be named index.htm by default on your account.
